“I
paint for the same reason I travel –
to explore, Beth Eller
paints from her studio in Colorado and while
traveling in the U.S. and abroad.
Her
travels have exposed her to numerous people, cultures and landscapes. These experiences
influence what she tries to
communicate in her painting and drive her to continuously search for
new ways
of looking at the world. She strives to capture her reaction to those
glimpses
in time. Current works by Eller involve cutting a finished oil painting, repositioning the pieces and then attaching them to another canvas. This approach enhances her paintings and results in captivating finished pieces that express the kinetic energy of her subjects. During the reassembly, each painting takes on a different mood and she discovers things that lead her in new and different directions. This is similar to traveling when one encounters the unexpected by taking a less traveled or unplanned route.
